This coffee is grown and produced in the Southern Department of Huila near the town of San Agustin, an area renowned for some of Colombia’s best quality coffees. This microlot is grown and produced by Pastor Ordoñez, owner of Finca El Placer. He is a member of the Asociación Los Naranjos, a small but tight-knit group of around 50 farmers who collaborate by sharing knowledge, resources, and tools in order to collectively improve their quality and livelihood. The overall philosophy is that anything that improves the lot for one producer can improve the lot for all. Members also make higher farm gate prices, both from their exporting partner, as well as from the importing company.
Pink Bourbon: Emerging new variety or old world genetics?
Pink Bourbon has been labeled as a coffee variety characterized by its pink coloured skin and its unique flavour profile. Over the past few years this variety has been showing up on World Barista competition stages and a growing number of Specialty Roaster menus, however, its genetic origins are a mystery.
Once thought to be a spontaneous cross of Red and Yellow Bourbon varieties from the south of Colombia, genetic testing in 2023 showed little relation to Bourbon, but pointed to Ethiopia landrace stock. Despite the ongoing mystery, Pastor’s expertise has produced a coffee that is unmistakably delicious. This is Fantastico’s second harvest offering by Pastor. We eagerly look forward to future offerings!
